ABOUT MICHELLE

From the page to the stage, Michelle Macwhirter has always loved telling stories.

​

Her picture book There Is No Magic in This Book was published by Walker Books Australia in 2020, and she also writes Young Adult fiction, with her manuscripts winning first and third place in the CYA Competition (2024, 2022).

​

Michelle’s comedy play Divorce Party enjoyed a near sold-out season at Gold Coast Little Theatre in early 2025, after a developmental play reading at HOTA, Home of the Arts.

She’s also part of JUTE Theatre Company’s Write Sparks alumni (2024) and was previously selected for Playlab’s Incubator program, where she wrote Clan, developed with RADF support and presented at HOTA’s 2017 Playwright Season.

Her short plays have popped up in Short+Sweet Festivals in Sydney, Auckland and on the Gold Coast, including For Our Kind, which took out second place in its heat, and her one-act play The Wrong Floor hit the stage at Javeenbah Theatre Company in 2021.

With a background in acting and performing arts marketing, Michelle loves creating stories that connect, entertain and shine a light on the messy, funny, heartfelt parts of being human. She lives on the beautiful Gold Coast with her family and two very spoilt dogs.
